St. Luke's Help the Needy
SLHTN presently consists of 8 teams of St. Luke’s parishioners that respond to the cry of the needy within our parish boundaries. Even in the very affluent areas of our own communities, one finds needy families and it is shocking to find that some could even be our next door neighbor or close friend.
They find themselves in this situation not through choice, but varying circumstances of which they have no control. Some through pride are reluctant to admit to their needs and a feeling of shame prevents them from seeking assistance until things become desperate and their families suffer. SLHTN responds to requests for assistance from the needy of all religious denominations in our parish by providing the following:
- Maintaining a pantry in our church to gather donated groceries for hampers
(presently provide approximately 300 hampers per year) - Evaluating requests for grocery hampers & other assistance by: completing client applications; team location visits; preparing & delivering hampers; advising clients as to assistance available through other agencies.
